The Passage

It's not always possible to keep up with Robert Booth. He races up from Swansea to Bath on numerous occasions, just as if he was popping round the corner.

Bob's words pour out in a torrent. Meanings, histories, ambitions and enthusiasms tumble over each other. And his spectacle of flame, sparks, molten metal and stone carving create climactic opening and closing ceremonies for

Love & Death @

Walcot Street.

It isn't always possible to fully connect together all the elements in his pieces - forging the themes of death and memory, time and place into a coherent whole. But, in truth, rituals are often difficult to piece together. They are not well-made plays but expressions of needs, desires, aspirations - and connectedness with other people.

One thing is certain: when Love & Death gains its many afterlives, the presentation of ritual will play an

essential role.
